Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a trance like state where the client is more focused and open to new information. The filters of the conscious mind are lowered, allowing the therapist to access the client’s unconscious mind and provide a different perspective of the problem.

What isn't hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not mind control. You will not be unconscious or under a magical spell. You will be in control and not be made to do anything you don’t want to do.

Is it safe?

It is safe where you will feel relaxed and comfortable. You’ will have a level of awareness and be able to come back anytime you wish. It’s more a focused attention, where you get to choose what information you wish to absorb and what you don’t.

How does hypnosis work?

People respond differently to hypnosis, however in most cases, the individual will drift into an altered state of consciousness, and while in the alpha and theta brain wave state, the client is more suggestible to new information. It can still take several session to take-on a new way of thinking, but over time a client should notice feeling better.

Who should perform hypnosis?

Only a qualified and professionally trained hypnotherapist should perform clinical hypnosis. To ensure the optimal outcome always research a therapist’s qualifications.

What is Strategic Psychotherapy?

Strategic psychotherapy is an approach to therapy that focuses on addressing specific issues and achieving results in the least amount of time. It’s a type of Psychotherapy where the therapist knows the best course of action and they help guide the client by developing cognitive techniques to best cope with their challenges.

Is my information safe and confidential?

At Inner Magic Hypnosis we have a legal and duty of care to protect the confidentiality of all our clients. The only exceptions to this are, if the client gives consent to disclose or when legally enforced, such as self harm, harm to others, criminal activities, subpoenaed by the courts, and non-identifiable discussions with peers. Informed consent will be gained from the client prior to conducting any treatment. If identified prior to treatment that the client is presenting with a mental illness which is out of scope, then the client will be referred to another professional more suited to treat their illness. Client safety and privacy is respected at all times. All notes and client documents are fully protected and securely stored electronically.
